The New Office/Studio In Progress

On Sunday my dad and I started building the new studio/office. It’ll be about 90 square feet and is triangular in shape to minimize the amount of space taken in the garage. Here is a picture I took after our first days work.

New Studio in ProgressClicking on the image will take you to Flickr where you will get a "guided tour" of the place.

Next we need to insulate the floor before nailing down the flooring. Then we move on to framing up the walls. All of that has been done so far is from scrap lumber laying around in the sheds (aka the Wills kind of price, aka free). The framing should take another day (hopefully next Saturday) to complete.

From there I will need to put insulation in the new walls, then sheetrock (aka dry wall) it all. It should be pretty sound proof that way from the garage noises. Also, I will be adding a suspended ceiling with possibly some additional insulation above that.

So now this leads me to the question, if you are building a studio from scratch like this. What would you do to get the best sound you can out of this space? I am looking for low-cost ideas to improve the sound without making the place look ugly.

Hi Mike,
I'm on the FPM crew too, but I can't respond to your email.
This looks really cool.
A couple things to consider if you're doing major renovations.
CBC studio for audio sets the ceiling in different ways so that standing in one part of the room sounds “bigger” than other parts. Why not consider having different places for different echoes. Also, they go as far as to have lift up trenches with troughs of different material, gravel, carpet, wooden tiles, leaves and the like for walking sound effects.
I know I go beyond the pale with these suggestions, but maybe there's ways to partially incorporate some of them?

I don't do that level of recording, just voice and maybe a guest occasionally.
